Durdle Door

Durdle Door, a rock arch in the sea, is an internationally famous landform on the south Dorset coast and is one of the main features of the Dorset and East Devon World Heritage Site. The offshore stacks and magnificent Portland Stone arch front a rollercoaster of towering chalk peaks and plunging dry valleys. Below the cliffs lies a sweeping beach that was once three separate coves.

Durdle Door beach is a large popular beach and varies in its length between sand and small pebbles depending on the winter storms. There are no facilities on the beach as it is intentionally kept uncommercial.

How to get there: The pay and display car park at Durdle Door can be reached by driving through Durdle Door Holiday Park to the cliff top car park. (Open March to Oct inc.) Out of season a small car park is available by the main gate to the Holiday Park. From the car park, follow the main chalk track about 1/3 of a mile to the steps above the beach. (N.B.There are 150 steps down to the beach - this means a short climb at the end of the day). There are public toilets in Durdle Door Holiday Park and there is a refreshments van situated adjacent to the path.
